Apalachicola Vacation HighlightsTo appreciate the history of Apalachicola, stroll around the waterfront and Victorian-era homes. Tin warehouses along Water St are reminders of the town's seafaring days of the late 1800s, and the Sponge Exchange dates from the 1840's. The lovely Trinity Episcopal Church, built in New York and shipped 1837, is a feature of the residential area. John Gorrie Museum State Park displays a replica of Doctor Gorrie's cooling machine, a forerunner of the air conditioner that is now an indispensible part of modern society. The Estuarine Walk has aquariums of fish, turtles and displays of various other estuarine life. |

Afternoon or sunset sailing on the bay is a popular way to spend a few hours. The fishing in these waters is excellent and several charter boats are available from the local dock.
