Planning An Orlando Golf Vacation

Golf is one of the most popular participant sports throughout Florida and Orlando is one of the major golf centers. Within the Orlando city limits alone,  there are 24 public, semi-private and private courses. When you include the surrounding areas of Seminole County and Kissimmee. the total number of courses rises to over 50. Many of the professionals that play the PGA circuit live in the area.

The huge tourism numbers attracted to Florida creates a demand for golf and there are golf holiday packages available to suit all tastes and budgets. A combined golf and accommodation package is a popular option and available from all the major golf resorts. There are several websites that specialize in pre-booking your course and tee-off times.

Whether you are planning a vacation devoted entirely to golf or just wanting to play a few vacation round, then Orlando is one of the best choices.  A great advantage that Orlando offers is that while some family members are out on the golf course, the rest of the family can visit the theme parks and the non-stop entertainment and attractions.

Some of the Orlando courses host annual PGA events such as the Arnold Palmer Invitational which is held in March every year at the Bay Hill Golf Club and Lodge.

The cost of a round of golf varies considerably. Prices are expensive at the up-market luxury resort courses, especially at peak demand times. It is usually possible to get a cheaper round on these courses by playing mid-week and outside of peak hours. Many of the Orlando golf resorts have a guests only policy so the only way to play these courses is to purchase an accommodation and golf package.

However, not all golf in Orlando needs to be expensive. The prices for 18 holes at the public and semi private courses will be well within the budget of most golfers.  It is well worth the time finding the websites of these courses and checking out the location, prices, check-in arrangements, course requirements etc as well as signing up to their email list to be kept up to date on last minute openings and any other relevant news.

Once you have a short-list of preferred Orlando courses, check out their websites, or contact them direct, and find out how far in advance you need to book your tee times. Also make it your business to find out about dress codes, caddie services, buggy hire and also enquire if they have any discounted package deals for your dates.

A golf vacation package will offer the best value for money for most people. Packages are usually fixed price and include the required number of nights in a hotel suite or self catering condo/villa plus a set number of rounds of golf. Golf package deals are advertised extensively on the internet. so some online window shopping will be required.  Typical prices [as of Dec 2011] range from US$150 to US$250 per person per day. You may prefer to have a travel agent do the work for you. They often have access to great deals and may have a preferred partner deal in place with some of the golf resorts and may be able to pass on some savings to you.

Golf packages can usually be arranged to fit your preference and/or schedule. You may want 4 days at a resort and play a round each day, all at different times. Many of the big resorts have two or more courses, so you might want to schedule tee times on different courses to experience the challenges that each one brings.  Most of the resorts offer amenities such as golf lessons with the course professional, day spas and restaurants offering fine dining experiences. These additional options can usually be included into your total package deal.

So..... if it's golf you are after, put Orlando at the top of your list of preferred destinations. You certainly won't regret it.
