Beaches At Daytona

Daytona Beach is well known for the fun and entertainment that line the beach and boardwalk. Concessionaires offer jet skiing, windsurfing and parasailing for the adventurous and there is a fishing pier for visitors seeking a more relaxing activity. The beach has four pedestrian-only zones.

The wide expanse of sandy beach is still the biggest visitor magnet in Daytona Beach. In recent years, the Ocean Center convention complex, Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) golf course and the Halifax Harbor Marina showcase the new emerging Daytona Beach.

Historical sites such as Main Street Pier, Oceanfront Boardwalk and the Clocktower in Oceanfront Park continue to appeal to visitors. Ormond Beach is where the world land speed record was set many years ago, and driving is still permitted on certain regulated portions of this beach.

Ormond Beach and Ormond-by-the-Sea are at the northern end of the Daytona Beach area and were once home to names such as Rockefeller and Flagler. Automotive pioneers tested their latest technologies on the beach. This is now one of the quieter areas of the Daytona Beach region.

The southern area of Daytona Beach Shores was started by a group of moteliers promoting their vacation accommodation. This city now extends for 5 1/2-miles along the Atlantic Ocean coastline.

Ponce Inlet sits at the southern tip of the peninsula and is a scenic fishing village that is the home port of the local charter fishing boats. Several of the area's best seafood restaurants can be found here. Ponce Inlet Park contains Florida's tallest lighthouse, the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse which stands 175 feet (53.3 metres) tall and which can be climbed via 203 steps. The park is popular for surfing, swimming and picnicking. New Smyrna Beach consists of 13.2 miles (21 kms) of white sandy beach proclaimed as the "World's Safest Beach" due to friendly waves and weak currents.

The beach is lined with quaint restaurants and shops on the adjacent streets. New Smyrna prides itself on being a laid-back coastal town, free from crowds, pollution and noise that are evident on many other Florida beaches. It is the ideal location to participate in water sports such as surfing, windsurfing, jet skiing, water skiing and sailing. Visitors to the Daytona Beach area will find an excellent choice holiday accommodation to suit all budgets, ranging from resorts, holiday apartments, traditional and boutique hotels plus bed and breakfast establishments.
