Beaches Of Miami

Miami Beach is the instantly recognized ocean front of Miami. Although able to boast pristine white sands and inviting waters, the beach remains better known for its promenade and boardwalk areas.

Outdoor body-building, fashion photography, TV productions, film shoots, mixing with the glitterati... not to mention being a favorite venue for South Beach parties.

Miami Beach is actually a combination of  several beaches and runs from South Pointe Park to just north of 63rd Street and Collins Avenue. Visitors to the Miami Beach area will find a selection of vacation accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets.

North Shore Beach (And Park) (7929 Atlantic Way, Miami Beach) is a large, busy beach and park area. The beach has very fine sand, shallow surf and a life guard on duty.

There are tables and grills for picnics and plenty of outdoor showers in the park and on the beach. South Beach (from 5th St through 21st St) and the Art Deco district is another of Miami's easily recognised landmarks.

This is the center of Miami fashion and high society. Palm fringed beaches are on the door step of restaurants, boutiques and nightclubs.

Lummus Park (Ocean Drive, 5th to 15th St) is located on the Miami River and offers walking trails, a recreation center with activities for seniors and others, children's playgrounds and many cafés nearby. There is a gay and lesbian beach on 12th Street.

Matheson Hammock Park Beach (9610 Old Cutler Road, Miami) is a lovely scenic park featuring a man-made atoll pool flushed naturally by the tides of nearby Biscayne Bay.

The beach is a favorite for families who appreciate its calm, safe waters and waterside views. The park has a boating marina,  snack bar and restaurant, picnic pavilions and nature walks. Beach hours are from sunrise to sunset.

Haulover Beach (10800 Collins Ave, Sunny Isles) is located between the Intracoastal Waterway and the ocean and is a popular spot with picnickers and fun-seekers on weekends. The northern sections of this beach is the place to get an all-over tan, being the city's only clothing-optional (ie nudist) beach. Haulover Beach is one of the largest public, life guard patrolled nude beaches in the US.
