26 miles south of Palm Beach, 40 miles north of Miami

The Gumbo Limbo Environmental Complex, so named for the hardwood tree which sheds its bark, is a 20-acre home to one the few remaining forest islands in South Florida.

The area can be seen up close from an elevated boardwalk that terminates at a observation tower with views across the the Intracoastal Waterway and Boca Raton.

Sea turtles come ashore here to lay their eggs during the mid-April to September season.

The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens is a serene Japanese garden dating from 1905. George Sukeji Morikami was a successful ineapple grower in the area and the 200-acre park, opened to the public in 1977, was Morikami's gift to the State of Florida.

In addition to a small but well-chosen permanent collection featuring the works of Picasso, Matisse and Warhol, the Boca Raton Museum of Art stages a wide variety of temporary exhibitions by local and international artists. Any art lover visiting Boca will be well rewarded by a visit to the museum.

A popular attraction is the International Museum of Cartoon Art which features displays and insights into the work of leading cartoonists and illustrators.

Small children are well catered for in the Boca Raton Children's Museum, housed in one of the town's oldest buildings. With a play chest of every imaginable toy, dress up uniforms and period dress, helpful mice staff, its a great experience for the parents as well. 

Also with children in mind is the Children's Science Explorium with a mix of educational and fun exhibits and hand-on participation.

Boca Raton tennisThe Boca Raton - Delray Beach area is blessed with several excellent beaches such as Delray's Atlantic Dunes Beach and the Delray Beach Public Beach. Boca Raton has South Beach Park and the ever popular Spanish River Park Beach on North Ocean Boulevard. The area has excellent golf courses, with two of the best being the Boca Raton Resort & Club and The Inn at Boca Teeca.

The area's best public golf course is the Boca Raton Municipal Golf Course. Vacationers looking for a game of tennis need look no further than the up market  Delray Beach Tennis Center or the public hard courts at Patch Reef Park. 

For snorkelers and divers, there is Moray Bend, a dive spot located about 1200 yards off Boca Inlet, and home to three moray eels. Red Reef Park is a fully serviced oceanfront park in Boca Raton with good swimming and snorkeling for beginners around the rocks and reefs just off the beach in shallow water.
