Central Florida

Central Florida is a mixture of the high profile, universally recognized entertainment parks such as Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld plus the nearby small Florida towns  still retain their old world charm and unhurried lifestyle.

However, with over 110,000 hotel rooms and over 60 incoming airlines and charter operators, Orlando Florida is the major drawcard for visitors to this region. Orlando hotels represent a major sector of local industry and Orlando offers accommodation for just about every choice and budget imaginable.

Choices range from from luxury hotels, exclusive golf resorts, themed condominiums and inns, a vast range of vacation rentals plus bed 'n breakfasts.  While the major Orlando entertainment parks are the big draw card, along with their non-stop nightlife and linked attractions, there is a no shortage of other Orlando highlights and attractions.

Golf devotees will find hundreds of exceptional golf courses in this region. Boat rides, themed restaurants of every imaginable kind, kiddies animal farms, rodeos, action parks... and that's just some of them.

Shoppers will find outlet centers and factory stores offering some of the best bargains in town. Visitors to the central Florida area will also find plentiful shopping and dining outside of the Orlando area in towns such Winter Park and Altamonte Springs

But there is also another central Florida, not much different from the days when citrus farms were the main industry.

Several destinations offer back-to-nature experiences and small town charm. The towns of Mount Dora and Bartow  are popular destinations for those seeking antiques and other treasures.

Mount Dora has often been called the "antiques capital of Florida," and also hosts several festivals. The towns date back to the earliest settlement of the area. Ancient oak trees line streets that weave through period residences set in serene, peaceful neighborhoods.

Devotees of the art of leaded glass will savour a trip to the The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art in Winter Park which houses the most comprehensive collection of the works of Louis Comfort Tiffany found anywhere.

State parks and national forests dot the landscape north of Orlando, providing opportunities for hiking, trail riding, camping and bush walking. A 66 mile section of the Florida National Scenic Trail runs through the Juniper Springs area.

The year round fine weather experienced in central Florida has resulted in several major sports clubs setting up their spring (pre-season) training camps. The Cleveland Indians  (baseball) have their camp at Winter Haven and the Atlanta Braves and Houston Astros (baseball) are based at Kissimmee.
