Florida Driving

Florida driving tours are a great way to get off the interstate and discover some of Florida's best-kept secrets. Time permitting, explore those parts of the State of Florida which are off the beaten track and the best way to do that is by planning a driving vacation.

A great way for visitors to see the old world charm and relaxed unhurried lifestyle still evident in many of the smaller rural towns is to take a Florida camping vacation that makes use of the numerous camp grounds and RV parks that dot the Florida landscape.

But before you set off, make sure you are carrying adequate roadside emergency equipment, that you know the rules of the road as described in the Florida Driver Handbook. Take notes from AAA Auto Club South which offers advice and tips to keep motorists out of trouble and provides some excellent online road map facilities.

If you get a traffic ticket while visiting Florida be sure to promptly pay the fine. The Florida Drivers Association provides all the information you need. If you have a drivers license from a US state you may benefit from a traffic school course.

If you are an International visitor you should not take a Florida traffic school course as these courses do not benefit international visitors

The US Dept of Transportation - Federal Highway Administration, provides an authority site for USA road tours and vacations in their American Byways.  The site offers some excellent ideas and suggestions for Florida road vacations.

The Florida Dept of Transportation Program provides an excellent guide to Florida Scenic Highways where you'll find all the information needed for planning an enhanced road trip experience.

The designated highways provide a window into Florida's heritage, natural beauty, historic and cultural qualities. With an excellent network of RV (recreational vehicles/motor home) parks, camping sites and roadside motels, Florida makes it very easy to leave behind the urban sprawl and high rise developments and enjoy the abundance of natural resources and early American history to be found throughout the state.

Florida law requires all occupants of a motor vehicle to wear a safety belt and that all children five years of age or younger be restrained in a proper child restraint system. Before you get behind the wheel in Florida, make sure you know how much alcohol you have consumed because Florida has one of the toughest DUI laws in  the United States.

Summer driving can present some unique challenges. Heat, humidity and frequent summer rain storms are road hazards that can cause breakdowns and accidents. Summer heat can be a killer for animals and young children left unattended in parked vehicles without ventilation.

Take the time to plan ahead, check out the driving distances involved, understand the Florida driving conditions and get your driving vacation off to a good start.

Our thanks to Florida Drivers Association for their contributions to this page. They are dedicated to improving safety on Florida roads and have approved courses for all 67 counties throughout Florida.
