144 miles from Tallahassee and 73 miles from St Augustine

Take a stroll around the Gainesville Northeast Historic District and visit some of the 290 period houses and buildings that depict the Gainesville lifestyle of a by-gone era.

Spend a day out in the country at the Morningside Nature Center and see how a Florida farm family lived 100 years ago. Descend 232 steps into a giant sinkhole at Devil's Millhopper State Geological Site.... and then ascend 232 steps to get out again!

At nearby Payne's Prairie State Preserve visit a wildlife sanctuary with a rare herd of buffalo as well as descendants of the first horses brought ashore by the Spanish. Stroll the tree-lined streets of High Springs and browse through antique shops, craft studios, and boutique shops.

High Springs waterwaysVisit  the century old buildings and homes throughout this historic town.  For the literary minded visitor, a place of interest to visit is the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings State Historic Site at Cross Creek, where the author wrote her popular book "The Yearling".

Paddle a canoe on the waterways at High Springs or dive into a crisp, crystal-clear spring.  Enjoy the outdoors in the nearby parks that offer hiking, biking and camping.

Cool off in an inner tube as you drift slowly down the beautiful, lazy Ichetucknee River.
