The Museum of Science and History provides a 12,000 year journey back in time through the natural history of Jacksonville and North Florida, featuring artifacts from the museum's collections, photographs, documents, and videos.

It is an excellent way to learn the history of the north Florida region and Jacksonville in particular. The environmentally sensitive Jacksonville Zoo is considered one of the best in the south east region of the USA. 

In addition to the zoo's Wild Florida area that includes all native fauna, the main exhibits also feature an extensive collection of animals from other continents.

Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, built on the grounds of a private Tudor mansion, is recommended to all who appreciate the visual arts. It houses works dating from 2000 B.C. to the present.

The Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve is a 46,000 acre assortment of linked sites encompassing pristine wilderness areas, historical buildings and informative exhibits on the area's natural history. Unlike other reserves and state parks, the area is not enclosed within linked boundaries, but is a series of different locations.

Southbank Riverwalk, bordering the St. Johns River, is a great place to meet locals in a relaxed setting. The Riverwalk is the scene of festivals, seafood fests, parades, and arts-and-crafts festivals.

The Friendship Fountain at the western end is the nation's largest self-contained fountain at 200 feet (61 metres) in diameter. It presents a spectacular sight at night when illuminated by its 265 lights.

Visit the Jacksonville Zoo to see the fine collection of exotic beasts and the Museum of Science and History to see the early origins of the region. Check out the dates for the annual Jazz Festival and International Sea & Air Spectacular. 

Take in the 73,000 seat Alltel Stadium for the annual Florida-Georgia football game every October or a National Football League match featuring the Jacksonville Jaguars  Cruise the St Johns river on the stern-wheel paddleboats, try some offshore deep sea fishing charters, try one of the 50 plus world class golf courses in the area or relax with some horse riding on the beaches and dunes.
