Miami
Crane
Point Hammock is for those interested in botanical and
archaeological history and it's considered an important historical site.
It contains the last thatch-palm hammock (tropical woodland) in North
America, a rainforest exhibit and an archaeological dig site.
There are
displays and activities for children. Always wanted to swim with dolphins? Then the Dolphin
Research Center is a great place to do it.
Located on Grassy Key, this center
is one of the most respected institutions that
study and protect the mammals. Visitors can also participate in other
forms of dolphin interaction.
Pigeon Key is an intriguing
historical site that has been under renovation since late 1993. Located
below the Old Seven Mile Bridge, it was a housing and maintenance depot
during the construction of Flagler's railroad.
In the period of its heyday between 1908-1912 it
had a peak occupancy of around 400 people.
After the
1935 hurricane that demolished the railroad, Pigeon Key housed the
workers who converted the railroad to vehicle bridges.
Above all else,
Marathon and Islamorada are renowned for the
fishing and attract anglers from all
over the world to come to battle with the tarpon, sailfish and bonefish
that are found in these waters.
