134 miles south west of Jacksonville, 228 miles north west of Miami

Orlando is the theme park capital of the world and best known for its major attractions, ie the 4 parks-in-one at Walt Disney WorldUniversal Studios including Islands of Adventure and Sea World Orlando plus a host of other world-class entertainment parks.

In the areas surrounding Orlando, visitors will find other, smaller and lesser known theme parks such as Gatorland and Water Mania. Orlando and the adjacent areas of Kissimmee and Lake Buena Vista are the major destinations for visitors to Florida and there is plenty see apart from the theme parks.

Harry P. Leu Gardens is 50 acres of botanical magic just a few minutes from downtown Orlando. It houses the largest camellia collection in Eastern North America. The Leu House Museum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Orlando Museum of Art is rated one of the best art museums in the south with outstanding collections of American art, ancient Americas and African art and educational programs.

Orlando and the surrounding areas are home of many championship golf courses. Many are resort courses and  restricted to resort guests.

Cracker Jack Stadium was completed in 2002 and is the spring training home of the Atlanta Braves baseball club.  The 17,500-seat TD Waterhouse Center is the home court of the NBA's Orlando Magic for 41 of their regular-season games.

Blue Springs State Park is about 40 miles (65km) north of Orlando,  near Cassadaga. For hundreds of years this area was home to the Timucuan Indians, but today it is better known as a center doing everything it can to protect  the endangered manatee.

The Ocala National Forest is about 60 miles (96km) northwest of Orlando near the town of Ocala,  which is the best base for exploring this enormous park with several natural springs and lakes, plus excellent hiking, canoeing, fishing and swimming.

The park consists of three major spring areas, being Juniper Springs, Salt Springs and Alexander Springs. The beautiful Juniper Springs are crystal clear and provide great canoeing.

Salt Springs and Alexander Springs have trails through cypress forests. Lake Eaton Sinkhole is 80ft (24m) deep and 450ft (135m) in diameter, with a staircase leading to the bottom. Nearby Lake Eaton provides a popular spot for swimming.
